Stop criminalising NPP speech – Sylvester Tetteh tells NDC.

ACCRA – Former Member of Parliament for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, has accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of targeting and criminalising members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for expressing dissenting view

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme, Mr Tetteh, who once served as Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, said NPP members have faced harassment and intimidation since the NDC assumed office.

“The NDC is a beneficiary of Kevin Taylor’s constant assault on people, yet when an NPP member criticises the government, that person becomes a target,” he argued. “This is the lowest form of democracy this country has experienced.”

His comments come as the NPP Youth Wing prepares to stage a protest in Accra against what it calls harassment, intimidation and abuse of power by state actors. The demonstration, branded Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna, meaning We are not afraid of intimidation, is expected to begin at 6 a.m. at the Obra Spot near Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

Organisers say the march is a call to resist oppression and defend democracy, freedom and justice. They are urging citizens, especially young people, to join the demonstration.

Reacting to Mr Tetteh’s claims, Jirapa MP Cletus Seidu Dapilah dismissed suggestions that controversial broadcaster Kevin Taylor is being shielded by the NDC.

“Our government is not protecting Kevin Taylor. He is not even a member of the NDC,” Mr Dapilah said.
