Amin Lamptey Criticizes NSA’s Boxing Suspension, Urges Investigation

ACCRA – Mohammed Amin Lamptey, former Commissioner and Director of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), has called for a more thorough investigation into the ongoing issues surrounding boxing in Ghana, rather than an outright suspension of the sport.

His comments came in response to the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) decision to pause boxing activities amidst allegations of misconduct.

Lamptey strongly believes that suspending boxing is an unjustified measure and, instead, advocates for diligence in uncovering the truth. He suggested that a deeper examination of the matter should be conducted, ensuring that all relevant facts are considered before making a decision that could have serious implications on the future of boxing in Ghana.

Addressing the NSA during an interview with Gideon Okyere Anim(Gatusso), Lamptey also took the opportunity to criticize Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the current Director of the NSA, urging him to develop stronger leadership skills and a more nuanced understanding of the challenges facing the boxing community. Lamptey emphasized that leading a national sports body requires more than just authority—it requires a genuine commitment to understanding the issues from all perspectives and finding fair solutions.

Despite Lamptey’s plea for investigation and dialogue, the NSA appears determined to move forward with their decision. Their stance suggests a desire to take swift action, but Lamptey warns that this approach could undermine the progress of boxing in the country.
