The University for Development Studies (UDS) has made history by becoming the first Ghanaian side to reach the final of the FISU World University Football Tournament after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Spain’s Granada in Dalian, China.

The Tamale-based university side held their nerve in a tense penalty shootout, edging past Spain’s Granada University 5–4 after a goalless regulation time. The victory marks the first time an African team has reached the grand finale of the prestigious global competition.

The match had fans on edge, with both teams creating chances but failing to break the deadlock. When the shootout arrived, UDS players showed remarkable composure, converting all but one of their spot-kicks to seal a famous win.

The team now prepares for the ultimate test in the final, with the chance to etch their name permanently in university football history.
