The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced plans to organize a testimonial match in honour of former Black Stars captain and legendary striker Asamoah Gyan.

According to the GFA, the event will “celebrate his illustrious career and immense contribution to Ghanaian football,” with further details on the date, venue, and lineup to be revealed soon.

Gyan, who officially retired in 2023 after two years of inactivity, remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer, with 51 goals in 109 international appearances.

The former Sunderland and Udinese forward is also Africa’s highest goal scorer in FIFA World Cup history, netting six goals across three tournaments — Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, and Brazil 2014.

At club level, Gyan’s illustrious journey began at Liberty Professionals before moving to Europe, where he featured for Udinese, Modena, Rennes, and Sunderland. He later made his mark in Asia and the Middle East with Al Ain, Al Ahli, Shanghai SIPG, and Kayserispor, before ending his professional career at Legon Cities FC.

The upcoming testimonial is expected to draw local and international attention as Ghana celebrates one of its greatest football icons.
