More than 2,000 cybercrime incidents were reported in Ghana between January and June 2025, according to data released by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).

The data, presented by Colonel George Eduah Beesi, Head of the Law Enforcement and Liaison Unit at the Authority, during a cybersecurity awareness programme in Accra on Wednesday, October 8, underscores the growing scale and complexity of cyber threats facing the country.

Online fraud topped the list with 725 reported cases, followed by cyberbullying (496) and online blackmail (291), reflecting the dominance of both financial and social forms of cyber offences.

Other incidents included unauthorised access (232), information disclosure (187), and online child sexual exploitation and abuse (32). Cases of online impersonation and identity theft stood at 30, while misinformation and disinformation accounted for five.

Although less frequent, the report also recorded four cases each of spam and phishing, and publication of non-consensual intimate images. Single cases of business email compromise, website defacement, and malware were also recorded.

In total, 2,008 cybercrime incidents were documented in the first half of 2025.

Colonel Eduah noted that the data highlights the increasing sophistication of cybercriminals and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to counter the evolving threat landscape.

The event, organised by the Financial Intelligence Centre in collaboration with the CSA, formed part of activities marking Cyber Security Awareness Month this October.
