2025 Galamsey Crisis Worse Than 2017- Paul Adom-Otchere

Host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has raised serious concerns over the worsening situation, pointing out that the galamsey problem in 2025 is more severe than it was back in 2017 when former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo first took office.

In a recent appearance on Channel One TV on October 18, 2025, Adom-Otchere questioned the government’s response to the issue, noting that the initial measures introduced in 2017 — such as a ban on small-scale mining — seem to have lost momentum over the years.

“Galamsey was already a problem in 2017, but it’s much worse now. Where is the ban on small-scale mining?” he asked, stressing the growing devastation of illegal mining activities across the country.

He stated that galamsey (illegal mining) became worse under President John Dramani Mahama, and his government failed to take any action. Prior to winning power, Mahama had blamed former President Akufo-Addo for the situation.

He further emphasized that the Mahama administration had deeply disappointed Ghanaians, failing to address the escalating issues that plagued the nation. Despite promises of solutions, the situation only worsened, leaving the citizens frustrated and disillusioned.
