The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has assured the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of adequate security for its presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

According to the IGP, a minimum of 70 police personnel will be deployed to each polling centre nationwide to guarantee a peaceful and credible exercise.

He made this known during the signing of a Peace Pact by the five NPP flagbearer aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026. Mr. Yohuno revealed that the Police Service has formally written to the Minister for the Interior to notify the Minister of Defence to provide military support in the Bawku area.

He explained that while the military will be on standby in other parts of the country, police officers will take the lead in providing security, except in Bawku where additional military support may be required.

“We have enough police personnel on the field, with the exception of Bawku. That is the area where we may need the support of the military,” Mr. Yohuno stated.

“We are assuring you that at least 70 police officers will be stationed at each polling station. We have deployed heavily, and all senior officers will be present at the polling stations.”
