Former second lady, Hajia Samira Bawumia has criticised what she described as smear campaigns against her husband, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race intensifies ahead of the next general election.
Addressing party delegates at Old Tafo in the Ashanti Region, Samira Bawumia urged unity and cautioned against misinformation as internal political contestation heats up.
She said it was “baffling and worrying” to hear claims questioning his political loyalty, including suggestions that he aligns with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“We should remain united with the truth as the election nears,” she said, describing Dr Bawumia as a candidate with an “unblemished record” whose credentials are publicly verifiable.
“We have been colonised in our minds to the point where people are saying Dr Bawumia is NDC. This is very surprising,” she said.
Samira Bawumia reminded delegates that the party had strongly endorsed her husband during the 2024 elections, portraying him as humble, knowledgeable and capable of transforming the country, and questioned why that assessment had changed.
“Why are we rejecting the same person whom we marketed in 2024?” she asked.
