Ghana international Abdul Fatawu has completed a permanent transfer to Premier League side Ipswich Town from Leicester City, signing a five-year contract that will keep him at Portman Road until the summer of 2031.
The 22-year-old winger arrives after an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Leicester City, where he scored nine goals in 44 appearances across all competitions. His consistent performances also earned him a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring in all four of the Black Stars’ matches.
Fatawu is expected to join his new teammates immediately at Ipswich Town’s pre-season training camp in La Manga, Spain, as the club steps up preparations for the upcoming Premier League campaign.
The talented winger began his professional career with Steadfast FC before impressing during a loan spell at Dreams FC. His performances attracted Portuguese giants Sporting CP, who signed him in 2022. He later moved to Leicester City, where he played a key role in helping the Foxes secure promotion to the Premier League during the 2023/24 season before establishing himself as one of the club’s standout performers.
On the international stage, Fatawu has become an important figure for Ghana. The winger has earned 32 senior caps for the Black Stars and represented the country at both the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups. Earlier in his career, he starred in Ghana’s successful 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign, winning the tournament’s Player of the Tournament award.
