Delay CJ nominee vetting until Torkonoo’s case concludes – Ahiagbah to Speaker

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has appealed to the Speaker of Parliament to exercise restraint in the vetting of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, until all legal proceedings surrounding the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo are concluded.

Mr Ahiagbah’s appeal follows calls by the Minority in Parliament for the suspension of the vetting process, citing ongoing court cases relating to Justice Torkonoo’s exit from office.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, November 1, the NPP Communications Director stressed the need for patience and due process in handling such a sensitive constitutional matter.

“I want to appeal that the Speaker, he is a seasoned parliamentarian, a statesman, and highly respected. I think that, in this moment, he should lead and say that there is no hurry. Let’s see the finality in these cases and then move on. But until that is done, any effort now to just push this thing through, I think that would leave a bad taste,” Mr Ahiagbah said.
