The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Ashanti Region has uncovered a fake diaper manufacturing warehouse operating in unhygienic and unsafe conditions, marking the latest in a series of enforcement actions against counterfeit diapers across Ghana.

In Tema, a joint operation in July 2025 led to the seizure of more than 360 bales of counterfeit diapers. Importers were accused of misclassifying the goods to evade detection, potentially putting millions of children at risk.

Following the Ashanti warehouse raid, the FDA Regional Director confirmed that the seized products had been detained and would be destroyed in accordance with regulatory procedures. He assured that similar enforcement exercises would continue across the region and warned that individuals involved in the illegal production and distribution of fake diapers would face prosecution.

Meanwhile, Nana Prempeh commended the FDA for the operation, calling it one of the most significant discoveries in the Ashanti Region to date. “This is one of the greatest discoveries so far in the Ashanti Region, with a single warehouse containing over 1,400 bales of diapers ready for the market,” he said.
