Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings and the longest-serving First Lady of the Fourth Republic.

In a tribute, the former President described the news of her death as “deeply saddening,” noting that her legacy as a pioneering champion of women’s empowerment in Ghana and across Africa will remain indelible.

He praised the late Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings for her significant contributions to gender advocacy and social development through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which she founded to advance the welfare of women and children. “Her commitment to the growth of the women’s movement in Ghana and Africa can never be forgotten,” he said.

Akufo Addo fondly remembered her as a warm, affectionate personality with a remarkable sense of humour and delightful company.

On behalf of his wife, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo Addo, and their family, the former President extended heartfelt condolences to the Rawlings family during this difficult period.

“May her soul rest peacefully in the bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall meet again,” he added.
