RICHARD AHIAGBA JOINS RACE FOR NPP NATIONAL FIRST VICE CHAIRMAN

National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Richard Ahiagbah has declared his intention to contest for the National First Vice Chairmanship of the party, positioning himself as the candidate to restore discipline and unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.

In a declaration of intent released and widely shared online, Ahiagbah said the NPP must “reflect and move forward with renewed energy” after its defeat in the 2024 polls.

He argued that the party’s survival depends on returning to its founding ideals of liberty, the rule of law and free market principles.

“Discipline, cohesion, unity”

Ahiagbah framed the internal reorganization of the NPP as urgent, warning that without discipline there can be no cohesion, and without cohesion there can be no unity.

“That is why our reorganization must produce disciplined leaders,” he said. “And without unity, we cannot achieve the victory Ghanaians envision for us in 2028.”

He urged delegates to elect a National First Vice Chairman on 19 September 2026 who can work with the National Chairman to rebuild party structures and reconnect with grassroots members.

A five-point agenda

Outlining his priorities, Ahiagbah said he would focus on renewing the party’s liberal-conservative values, strengthening administration at all levels, and promoting accountability and mutual respect.

He also pledged to encourage inclusion “so every member feels valued and heard” and to support efforts to make the NPP “a united, election-ready party.”

Ahiagbah cast the NPP as still “Ghana’s best path to prosperity, strong leadership, and good governance,” but acknowledged that Ghanaians are “seeking new kinds of leaders” — leaders who are disciplined, have integrity, and are unifying.

“I am prepared to meet those expectations,” he said, requesting the delegates’ “vote, guidance, and prayers.”

The NPP is expected to elect its national officers in September as it seeks to reorganize after losing power in 2024.

The party will be aiming to unseat the ruling government in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
