SPAIN CROWNED WORLD CHAMPIONS AFTER EXTRA-TIME THRILLER AGAINST ARGENTINA

Spain has won the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a gruelling 1-0 victory over defending champions Argentina at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute of extra time to secure Spain’s second global crown and complete a historic Euro-World Cup double.

Luis de la Fuente’s side dominated possession and territory for long stretches of normal time, but Lionel Messi’s Argentina defensive unit held firm to force the match into the additional 30-minute period.

The physical encounter saw Argentina accumulate six yellow cards, culminating in a major setback just before the end of normal time. Midfielder Enzo Fernández received his second yellow card in the 90+2 minute, leaving the defending champions short-handed for the duration of extra time.

Spain finally broke the deadlock one minute into the second half of extra time. Ferran Torres capitalized on the space inside the penalty area to beat goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez with a clinical finish, sparking wild celebrations on the Spanish bench.

The Spanish defensive line, marshalled by Unai Simón and young center-back Pau Cubarsí, successfully neutralized Argentina’s late long-ball attempts to seal the triumph. The victory marks Spain’s first World Cup title since their 2010 win in South Africa.
