The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), has appointed former Government Statistician in Ghana, Samuel Kobina Annim as the new Director for the Africa Centre for Statistics (ACS) at the D-1 level.

President John Dramani Mahama, in April 2025, removed Annim and replaced him with Dr Alhassan Iddrisu as Government Statistician after he had served in that position from March 2019.

Before joining the Statistical Service, Annim was an associate professor at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), where he worked for over 18 years.

UNECA in an announcement, indicated it was a “pleasure” to have Annim on board as Director of the Africa Centre for Statistics (ACS) at the D-1 level,

Annim received a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom in 2010.

He also holds a Master of Philosophy in Economics from the University of Ghana and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, in 2002 and 1999, respectively.

Before joining Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and before serving as the Head (Government Statistician) of the Ghana Statistical Service, Annim held the position of Head, Department of Economics and Deputy Director, Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, where he has been an academic faculty member since 2002.

Additionally, at the international level, Annim is the immediate past Co-Chair of the United Nations High Level Group on Partnership, Coordination and Capacity Bukling (UN-HLG PCCB) and the former Chair of the Executive Board and Board of the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21).
