This is betrayal; let’s speak out – Ntim Fordjour tells religious leaders over LGBTQ issue

Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called on religious leaders across the country to speak boldly on matters of national concern, particularly when political leaders fail to honour their commitments.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem, the lawmaker expressed strong disapproval of what he described as inconsistencies in political leadership, warning that such conduct erodes public trust.

According to him, political leaders must remain truthful and consistent in their dealings with the public.

“As politicians, we must let our yes be yes and our no be no,” he stressed, cautioning against making promises for the sake of gaining power only to abandon them once in office.

Rev. Fordjour described such actions as a “betrayal,” insisting that Ghanaians, including religious groups, should not overlook what he views as deliberate deception.

He also urged sections of the clergy to show courage and hold leaders accountable, just as they have done in the past. The former Deputy Education Minister recalled instances where prominent religious figures openly challenged former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on national issues, noting that similar boldness is needed in the current political climate.

“Renowned men of God gave ultimatums before. If certain issues had been ignored at the time, there would have been protests and industrial actions,” he said, suggesting that silence from religious leaders now could be interpreted as complicity.

Turning his attention to the current administration, he urged President John Dramani Mahama to clearly define and prioritise key national concerns, maintaining that issues such as LGBTQ+ remain significant and should not be sidelined.

Describing the situation as “hypocrisy at the highest level,” Rev. Fordjour reiterated his appeal to pastors, imams, and other faith leaders to speak up and guide national discourse, especially at a time when many citizens are looking to them for moral direction.
