We won’t suspend our vigil, let us demonstrate in peace – #FixTheCountry tells NDC leadership

ACCRA – The leadership of the #FixTheCountry movement has turned down an appeal from the Presidency to suspend their ongoing vigil against illegal mining.

The group hooted at the Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, and asked him to leave the Revolutionary Square so they could continue their protest.

Mr. Gbande had earlier pleaded with the group to call off the vigil, insisting that dialogue offered a better path to resolving the issue than street demonstrations.

However, the conveners of #FixTheCountry maintained that they have no intention of halting their vigil, stressing that their action is in the supreme interest of the nation.

They further called on the security leadership at the Flagstaff House and the NDC to allow them to demonstrate peacefully, noting that any discussion with government officials can only take place after their vigil ends on Monday, September 22.

The group also challenged the NDC leadership to address the country directly through a press conference if they have any message for Ghanaians on the galamsey menace.
