New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of Parliament’s Health Committee have petitioned the Minority Leadership to sanction Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, accusing the former lawmaker of “anti-party conduct” for criticizing their visit to Afari Military Hospital.
In a petition dated 18 June and addressed to the Minority Leadership, the committee said Agyapong publicly described the 10 June visit as “unwarranted” and advanced claims that “contradicted the known facts concerning the status and operational readiness of the hospital.”
Dispute over Afari Hospital
The delegation, led by Ranking Member Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, visited the facility in the Ashanti Region to assess healthcare challenges, particularly at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
The MPs said military personnel prevented them from entering, leading to a scuffle that drew public attention.
Following the incident, Agyapong, a former Assin Central MP and NPP presidential aspirant, criticized the visit on public platforms.
The petitioners argued his statements amounted to misinformation and “served to mislead the public on a matter of significant national importance.”
“Anti-party conduct”
The committee said the visit was “neither unilateral nor unauthorized” and had approval from the Minority Leader, Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip.
It accused Agyapong of publicly disparaging a collective undertaking done “in the public interest and in furtherance of the objectives of the Party.”
The MPs warned that failure to act could erode leadership authority, create a “Pandora’s Box for indiscipline,” and damage the NPP’s 2028 election ambitions by shifting focus to “internal wrangling over an issue that is totally needless.”
Sanctions requested
They are asking the Minority Leadership to publicly rebuke Agyapong for “unwarranted remarks and conduct” and refer his conduct to appropriate party organs for “necessary engagement and guidance.”
The petition was copied to the NPP Flagbearer, General Secretary, and Council of Elders.
Signatories include Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye of Effiduase Asokore, Dr. Patrick Boachie Yiadom of Obuase East, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang of Abuakwa South, Alexander Akwasi Acquah of Akim Oda, and Frank Yeboah of Atwima Nwabiagya North.
