Bawumia best placed to win 2028—Miracles Aboagye

Director of Communications for the Bawumia campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, says internal research and feedback from party delegates show strong support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary.

Speaking on Good Afternoon Ghana on Metro TV on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Miracles Aboagye said the campaign has engaged extensively with research and polling institutions to guide its strategy.

“I have been dealing with about 14 different pollsters and survey institutions across the country,” he said.

According to him, 11 of those polls favour Dr Bawumia, while three show support for other contenders.

“Two, I think, were for Ken and one was for Brian. And 11 for Dr Bawumia,” he stated.

On the growing role of prophecies in the internal contest, Miracles Aboagye said while he is a Christian and believes in miracles, campaigns should not be driven by spiritual claims.

“I believe there are prophecies. I am not one that will contend with what a prophecy is God has told him because I wasn’t there when God spoke to him,” he said.

However, he warned that conflicting prophecies risk making Christianity look unserious in the public eye.

“How can one God tell all of you different things on the same subject? That is very strange,” he said, adding that “somebody is lying” when prophets give opposing predictions about the same election outcome.

Miracles Aboagye insisted that Dr Bawumia has committed the entire contest into God’s hands but is focused on data, organisation and delegate engagement rather than spiritual theatrics.

Responding to claims that Dr Bawumia has distanced himself from the record of the previous NPP administration, he described that narrative as false.

“There is not a single instance or evidence of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia distancing himself from the previous government,” he said.

“Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaigned 80 percent on the performance of the previous government.”

He argued that admitting mistakes or apologising does not amount to rejection of the party’s record.

“What is wrong with admitting that there are certain things that we could have done better?” he asked.

Miracles Aboagye also rejected suggestions that Dr Bawumia has struggled to communicate his vision.

According to him, the campaign has deliberately kept internal party discussions away from public controversy.

“Why should an MPP delegate be beamed live on your screens?” he asked.

“The real conversation is to convince the delegates as to why I am the right person to lead the party.”

He said Dr Bawumia’s message to delegates is centred on focus, discipline and electoral victory. “There’s not a single controversial statement you can point to in this campaign from Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.

He downplayed concerns that internal disagreements could weaken the party going into 2028, arguing that political parties naturally go through turbulent phases.

“NPP is having our moment, but politics has a structure,” he said. “The NDC has suffered more turbulence than the NPP and they survived.”

He expressed confidence that the party would unite quickly after the primary. “There’s a principle in our party that after competition is collaboration,” he said. “By Sunday morning, we would all have come together.”

On why delegates should vote for Dr Bawumia, Miracles Aboagye said the former Vice President’s core message is consistency and winnability.

“He is telling the delegates that I am the guy that can win power for the NPP in 2028,” he said, adding that Dr Bawumia’s national recognition and experience from the 2024 election make him the most marketable candidate.

“In one of the most difficult elections, he still managed to pull 42 per cent of the votes,” Mr Aboagye said. “All we need to do is fix what we could have done better, and it shouldn’t be too difficult to get the rest on board.”
