The former Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator for Akwapim North Constituency, Sammi Awuku, has sent a clear message to NPP’s Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, urging him to ignore political distractions and maintain an unwavering focus on the party’s governance and developmental mandates.
Speaking on the strategic direction of the ruling party as it navigates complex economic and political landscapes, Mr. Awuku emphasized that leadership is ultimately judged by concrete deliverables and the execution of the social contract with the electorate, rather than external noise or transient political propaganda. He noted that in the high-pressure environment of Ghanaian politics, it is easy for standard-bearers and national leaders to get drawn into reactionary debates, which often detract from core structural and policy objectives.
Mr. Awuku expressed absolute confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s authenticity and administrative capabilities, noting that the former Vice President’s popularity and traction continue to see an upward trajectory among the Ghanaian populace. He stressed that the path to securing long-term public trust and breaking programmatic barriers relies heavily on strategic messaging, grassroots persuasion, and solid economic output, rather than superficial political symbolism such as t-shirts and billboards.
The former NPP National Organizer further highlighted that internal party unity remains the single most critical asset for the organization. He cautioned party structures against entering political cycles with bitterness or division, reinforcing that an inclusive, forward-looking strategy centered around Dr. Bawumia’s leadership is what will ultimately insulate the party from opposition attacks and guarantee its political longevity.
