Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has formally declared his bid for the party’s national chairmanship, seeking the blessing of the Council of Elders and unveiling a comprehensive blueprint aimed at positioning the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
Boadu, who previously served as Acting General Secretary, General Secretary, and National Organiser, emphasised his experience in steering the NPP to victory in 2016 and 2020, noting that the party’s defeat in 2024 was largely due to internal divisions and weakened grassroots structures. He pledged to restore unity, discipline, and trust within the party.
In his presentation to the Council of Elders, Boadu outlined a blueprint for 2028 victory, which includes:
- Grassroots rebuilding: Strengthening local party structures and election management systems.
- Youth and stakeholder engagement: Expanding outreach to young people, business groups, faith-based organisations, media, and tertiary institutions.
- Training and communication: Enhancing training for party communicators and polling agents.
- External branches: Revitalising overseas branches and the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON).
- Elders’ welfare: Introducing monthly stipends to support the Council of Elders in their mediation and advisory roles.
Boadu stressed that reconciliation and organisational strength will be decisive in the next electoral cycle, promising to involve the Council of Elders more actively in dispute resolution to prevent factionalism.
