Minority Leader Slams 2026 Budget as “Cut-and-Paste Document”

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has launched a fierce criticism of the 2026 Budget Statement, accusing the government of submitting a “cut-and-paste” document riddled with contradictions and basic errors.

In his closing statement on the 2026 budget in Parliament, the Effutu MP said pages 74 to 76 specifically paragraphs 519 to 533 contain inconsistencies that expose “a reckless lack of diligence” by the administration.

According to him, the document makes reference to ministries that have not been clearly defined in the current governmental structure, including the supposed Ministry of Railway Development, the Ministry of Works and Housing and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.

He questioned how such errors escaped scrutiny despite the large number of ministers and presidential appointees involved in the budget process.

“Where were the ministers and deputy ministers when these mistakes went through Cabinet?” he asked.

The Minority Leader argued that the anomalies are not “mere oversights” but clear evidence of incompetence and a recycling of old proposals presented as new policies. He demanded that the budget be withdrawn and resubmitted with corrections.

Afenyo-Markin warned that the governing party cannot rely on its majority to “rubber-stamp a carelessly prepared national document,” adding that the Minority will subject every detail to close scrutiny.

“Such lapses undermine the credibility of national planning and must not be tolerated,” he concluded.
