Kwame Prempeh says the NPP’s 2024 election defeat reflects a growing trust deficit between the party and the electorate, rather than rejection of its ideological or policy direction.
He argued that key flagship programmes such as the Ghana Card system and other governance initiatives remain widely accepted by Ghanaians but were poorly communicated.
“Ghanaians know what the NPP stands for… but in 2024 they lost trust in us continuing with our job,” he said on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (3 July).
KP said the party must focus on rebuilding confidence by improving communication and taking citizens through the implementation journey of government policies.
He cited infrastructure projects, including hospital developments in the Ashanti Region, as examples of achievements that were not effectively communicated to voters.
“We should have taken time to explain and work with Ghanaians to take them along the journey,” he noted.
He also emphasized that electoral success in Ghana follows cyclical patterns of early goodwill followed by declining confidence, referencing election outcomes from 2000 through 2024.
According to him, the NPP must therefore reposition itself as a “rebranded and restructured” political organisation if it is to regain voter confidence in 2028.
