Media personality and New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, along with six other individuals, has been granted bail by the Nsuta Circuit Court on Friday, July 17, 2026.
The court set the bail condition at GH¢100,000 following their formal arraignment. Afrifa-Mensah and the six co-accused have maintained their innocence regarding all charges brought against them.
The legal proceedings follow their arrest on Sunday, July 12, 2026, after security disturbances disrupted voting during the NPP’s Constituency Executive Elections in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency, located in the Ashanti Region.
Eyewitness accounts and video footage from the scene indicated that a group allegedly led by Afrifa-Mensah entered the polling center during the early hours of voting, causing panic among delegates and party administrators. Initial unverified reports from the venue alleged that some individuals within the group were carrying firearms.
Personnel from the Ghana Police Service intervened at the polling station to restore order and took Afrifa-Mensah and several others into custody. Following the police intervention, the security perimeter was cordoned off, and the voting process resumed peacefully.
The case has been adjourned, and the accused are expected to reappear in court at a later date to face trial.
