The North East Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into an armed attack on two Ghana Immigration Service officers stationed at the Gbintiri Inland Checkpoint near Nalerigu in the North East Region.

According to a press release issued by the Regional Police Headquarters in Nalerigu on Friday, October 3, 2025, the officers were attacked by unknown gunmen around 1:00 a.m. while on duty.

“At about 1:00am on Friday, 3/10/2025, the Police received information that unknown gunmen had attacked two Immigration Service officers who were on duty at the Gbintiri Inland Checkpoint,” the statement said.

The release, signed by the Regional Public Affairs Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Anabiik Anmain, confirmed that both officers sustained gunshot wounds during the attack. Unfortunately, one of the officers died as a result, while the other was rushed to a health facility for medical attention.

“Sadly, one of the officers died as a result while the other one was immediately sent to the hospital for medical attention,” the Police noted.

The assailants reportedly made away with a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers. However, Police retrieved a service rifle used by the personnel at the checkpoint.

DSP Anmain assured the public that the Command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators of what he described as a “heinous crime.”

“The Command wishes to assure the public that there is a manhunt for the perpetrators of this heinous crime to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement emphasized.

The Police further appealed to the public to provide any credible information that could assist in tracking down the attackers.

“We hereby appeal to the public to provide any information on the culprits to assist Police investigation,” the release concluded.

The Gbintiri Inland Checkpoint serves as one of the key security installations in the North East Region, where security agencies collaborate to monitor movements and curb cross-border crimes.
