The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has accused the government of failing to account for proceeds from the GH¢1 “dumsor levy” on fuel.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, he alleged that since the levy was approved by the Parliament of Ghana, there has been no proper accountability to lawmakers or the public.

According to him, a significant portion of revenue from fuel purchases is being collected under the levy, yet details on how the funds are being managed remain unclear.

“When you buy fuel worth GH¢1,000, about GH¢83 goes to the government, and they have not accounted for it,” he claimed.

Mr. Awuku further questioned where the funds are being kept and who is responsible for managing them, stating that no official report has been presented to Parliament since the levy was introduced.

He maintained that the government has been collecting the funds without transparency, describing the situation as a failure of accountability.
