Stop Politicizing Project Completion, GH¢70bn Lost To Delays – Kennedy Osei Nyarko To Mahama

Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to demonstrate commitment to his promises of completing abandoned and ongoing government projects if re-elected.

In a Facebook post, the lawmaker expressed concern over Ghana’s mounting financial losses caused by the delay or suspension of government-funded projects across the country.

According to Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the latest National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) report indicates that Ghana has incurred over GH¢70 billion in additional costs due to prolonged project delays.

“Mr. President John Mahama, if only you will live by your words — because already this country is adding up over GH¢70 billion cost run-offs on ongoing government projects that are delayed over years,” he stated.

He emphasized that the NDPC report revealed an alarming trend: more than 16,000 government projects across the country have either been delayed or suspended, significantly inflating costs and undermining development efforts.

“Imagine what this GH¢70 billion could have done for the country. But because of dirty politics and our selfish, partisan nature, we are allowing so much money to go waste,” the MP lamented.

Kennedy Osei Nyarko urged Ghanaians to discourage the politicization of project completion and instead demand continuity from successive administrations. He argued that completing existing infrastructure projects should take precedence over launching new ones.
