Former member of parliament for Dome-Kwabenya constituency, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has declared her support for Dr Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer ahead of the presidential primaries.

Adwoa Safo has chosen the former vice president ahead of her one-time lover, Kennedy Agyapong, who is seen by many as a strong contender in the race.

In a short video shared on the social media platform X, the former legislator declared that she is in the camp of former vice president, Dr Bawumia, who is staging a second bid to lead the NPP as its presidential candidate.

When asked why she decided to snub Ken, who is the father of her two kids, Adwoa Safo explained that “this is politics, this is not family matter .”
The former minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection has mentioned in previous interviews that ahead of the 2008 parliamentary primaries of the party, which was held in 2007, her then husband abandoned her.

According to Adwoa Safo, Kennedy ditched her and instead offered his support to Professor Mike Oquaye, even though she was pregnant with Kennedy Agyapong’s child during the period.

Meanwhile, she did not specify whether her decision to support Dr Bawumia at the expense of her former lover is payback time for how Ken Agyapong once treated her.

In her previous interviews, Adwoa Safo has explained that she strongly believes in the vision of former vice president Dr Bawumia and therefore, prefers him to her former partner, Kennedy Agyapong.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has already opened nominations for its 2026 presidential primaries with a non-refundable amount of GH¢100,000 set as an application fee.

Kennedy Agyapong, who is the former MP for Assin Central, has already picked his nomination forms.
