The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted a teacher of Bole Senior High School in the Savannah Region following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a student, as investigations into the matter begin.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 16, GES said it had become aware of a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows misconduct involving the teacher and a student of the school.
The service said it had immediately initiated investigations and directed that the teacher be interdicted in line with its rules and regulations pending the outcome of the inquiry.
GES strongly condemned what it described as amorous relationships between teachers and students, reiterating its zero tolerance policy on sexual misconduct within the education system.
“The Service reiterates its zero tolerance towards sexual misconduct and cautions all staff to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and conduct at all times,” the statement said.
The education authority stressed its commitment to protecting the safety, welfare and wellbeing of students and said appropriate disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable.
GES also assured the public that the matter was being treated with the utmost seriousness and said further updates would be provided when necessary as investigations progress.
The statement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at GES.
