High Court Grants GH¢30,000 Bail to Arrested NPP Communicator Baba Amando After Dramatic Police Transfer and Remand

The High Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties to Abubakar Yakubu, popularly known as Baba Amando, the Sunyani East Constituency Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party.

The court, presided over by Justice Comfort Tasiame, also directed him to report to the police every two weeks while investigations continue.

Baba Amando was arrested on 12 April 2026 after he and his lawyer, former Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah Yeboah, voluntarily honoured an invitation from the Ghana Police Service at the Bono Regional Police Headquarters around 10:00 a.m. Upon arrival, officers at the command reportedly stated they had no knowledge of the invitation.

Subsequent engagement with the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra revealed that he was required in the capital. The CID in Accra then instructed the Bono Regional Police CID to effect his arrest and facilitate his transfer to Accra.

He was charged with publishing false information and remanded into custody for one week by the Accra Circuit Court. Following the remand period, his lawyers applied for bail at the High Court, leading to the GH¢30,000 bail grant.

The case stems from alleged cyber-related offences linked to Facebook posts.
