KOKOFU PLEDGES UNITY, DISCIPLINED LEADERSHIP IN ASHANTI NPP CHAIRMANSHIP BID

Former Bantama Member of Parliament Henry Kwabena Kokofu has pledged to rebuild unity within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, saying strong and disciplined leadership will be key to the party’s preparations for the 2028 general election.

Kokofu, who is seeking to become the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, made the remarks on Tuesday after undergoing the party’s vetting process for the regional executive elections.

He said the party must confront internal divisions if it hopes to regain political power.

“One of the major cankers worrying us is disunity,” Kokofu told reporters.

He said the next regional chairman must possess integrity, experience, humility and the ability to command the respect of party members.

“You don’t put just anybody there. You need somebody who has integrity, experience, maturity, honesty, humility, ideas and commands the respect of the people,” he said.

Kokofu said, if elected, he would convene a regional conference bringing together party elders, members and sympathisers to discuss strategies for strengthening the NPP in its electoral stronghold.

He said the conference would focus on promoting party unity, constructing a new regional office, youth development, financial sustainability and strengthening the party’s communication and security structures.

The former legislator also pledged to improve the resolution of internal disputes, saying the party would engage professional negotiators and mediators where necessary to settle conflicts.

“So that would not be a difficult thing to do,” he said.

Kokofu further promised to take a more robust approach in defending the party’s leadership against political attacks.

“We will not allow any more the disgrace and the insults that were hurled at our flagbearer. We will defend when necessary and attack when necessary,” he said.

Drawing on his experience as the former Member of Parliament for Bantama, one of the NPP’s largest constituencies, Kokofu said he understood what it takes to win parliamentary seats.

“I combine the experience of knowing exactly how to bring parliamentary seats,” he said.

The Ashanti Region remains the NPP’s electoral stronghold, making the regional chairmanship race one of the party’s most closely watched internal contests as it reorganises ahead of the 2028 general election.

Kokofu said rebuilding the party would require the collective efforts of all members.

“It is all hands on deck,” he said.
