Kwahu Traditional Council rejects reports of Queen Mother abduction

The Kwahu Traditional Council has dismissed widespread claims that Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III, the Paramount Queen Mother of Kwahu, was abducted, describing the reports as entirely untrue.

The Council said the confusion followed an interlocutory injunction issued on 24 June 2025 by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs in favour of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.

The order restrained Baffour Osei Akoto, who has been presenting himself as Kwahuhene, along with the Queen Mother and several others, from interfering with the work and occupancy of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II at the Abene Palace.

According to the Council, the Ghana Police Service stepped in only to enforce the court order and to prevent tensions from escalating into violent clashes. Officials stressed that the Queen Mother does not live at the palace and that none of those arrested were taken from the premises, insisting that no abduction of any kind occurred.

The Council also accused the Queen Mother of engaging groups of thugs in an attempt to take control of the Abene Palace by force and of issuing threats aimed at disrupting the work of the recognised Kwahuhene.

All individuals arrested during the police operation are said to be in lawful custody and in good health.
