NDC youth in Walewale shut coordinating director’s office, demand removal

Irate NDC youth in Walewale, in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region, stormed the Municipal Assembly and locked the Coordinating Director’s office while demanding his removal from the assembly.

The protest was carried out on Tuesday (14 April 2026).

The youth, clad in red bands on their hands and heads, marched to the office, but the Municipal Coordinating Director was not present.

They then locked the office and warned the coordinating director not to set foot in the office again.

The youth said their action was prompted by the Coordinating Director’s alleged interference in party matters, habitual lateness, refusal to sign documents for some contractors, and poor working relationship with the MCE and other staff.

One of the aggrieved youth, identified as Lambon, told the media in an interview that their action was justified, insisting the Coordinating Director is unfit to work at the assembly because of the reasons leveled against him.

“In fact, he is not doing the job that we are expecting him to do in this district. I am saying so simply because he is not punctual in the office. Even as we are here this morning, he is not in the office,” he said.

Lambon stressed that “We need development in the town, which he would have been also, let’s say, doing his job, very perfect for the constituency to develop [and] the youth as well, he is not doing it. So, therefore, we don’t want him in the office anymore.”

It is alleged that the Coordinating Director, Justice Bayom, who was transferred to the Municipal Assembly as Coordinating Director in September 2025, has a poor working relationship with most senior staff members at the assembly.

An insider at the municipal assembly revealed off the record that Justice Bayom said he would not report to the office but would work from home instead.

Meanwhile, the party youth initially targeted the MCE, Mohammed Rabiu Jabaah, for removal, arguing that he had not consulted some party executives before engaging in activities that required their involvement.
