The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, is set to donate 50 computers to students of the University of Media, Arts and Communication [UniMAC] following a commitment he made during a public lecture on artificial intelligence and the future of work.
The presentation is expected to take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the university’s South Legon campus in Accra.
Dr. Acheampong made the pledge after delivering a lecture organised by the Faculty of Business and Strategic Communication, FoBSC, on the theme, “AI Disruptions and the Future of Work: Readiness of Our Youth”.
The discussion focused on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, innovation and the preparedness of young people for changes in the job market.
Speakers at the event emphasized the growing need for universities to equip students with practical digital skills, creativity, ethical leadership and technological knowledge to help them compete in an increasingly digital economy.

The donation is being viewed as a response to concerns raised during the lecture about limited access to digital learning tools and the need to better prepare students for the future of work.
University authorities say the computers will improve access to digital resources and support the institution’s efforts to strengthen innovation, communication technology and AI readiness among students.
The Rector of UniMAC-IJ, Professor Christiana Hammond, described the donation as an important intervention that reflects confidence in young people and the role of education in national development.
She said the gesture went beyond the presentation of computers and represented an investment in the future of students.
“The future of work is increasingly digital, and institutions of higher learning must intentionally position students to succeed in this evolving environment,” she said.
Professor Hammond added that the support would help improve teaching, learning, innovation and student preparedness for the digital economy.
The university also said the donation formed part of broader efforts to build a more digitally enabled learning environment to support communication education, media innovation, research and emerging AI applications.
Government officials, university management, lecturers, students and stakeholders in the education and technology sectors are expected to attend the ceremony.
