The opposition has accused the government of deliberately shifting public attention away from concerns over the Bank of Ghana’s financial losses through what it describes as coordinated “narrative diversion.”
Yaw Opoku-Mensah said the emergence of multiple political controversies — including debates over Air Ghana and the PDS concession — reflects a strategy to dilute scrutiny of the central bank’s performance.
“Government is using a certain form of narration that seeks to divert attention from the real issues at the Bank of Ghana,” he said on the Asaase Breakfast Show.
He alleged that state actors and aligned communicators were amplifying alternative topics to crowd out debate on what he described as worsening financial indicators at the central bank.
“This is a form of media warfare… to take our minds off the core issues affecting livelihoods,” he said.
Opoku-Mensah argued that despite official claims of economic stabilisation, the impact is not being felt by ordinary Ghanaians.
“You hear of single-digit inflation and exchange rate stability, but these are not reflected in the market,” he said.
He warned that failure to address underlying economic concerns could erode public confidence, urging a more transparent and focused national discussion on monetary policy and economic management.
