NPP elections: keep Justin Kodua, replace “weak” executives – Kojo Poku to delegates

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Razak Kojo Poku, has called for a reshuffle of the party’s national leadership while urging delegates to retain Justin Frimpong Kodua as General Secretary.

In a Facebook post, Poku criticized the current Research and Communication Directorates at the party’s headquarters, describing them as “extremely weak and poor” and asserting that nearly 90 percent of current national executives and directors do not deserve another term in leadership, regardless of the position they are contesting.

“Almost 90% of the current national executives & Directors don’t deserve another chance within the national leadership regardless of the position they are seeking,” he wrote.

Keep Kodua

Poku singled out Kodua, emphasizing that while other executives should be replaced, the General Secretary should remain. He stressed the need for delegates to elect a National Chairman or Leader capable of supporting the party’s Flagbearer to secure victory in the 2028 elections.

“The delegates can maintain the current General Secretary but ensure that they elect a National Chairman/Leader who not just speaks good English but can also really assist the elected Flagbearer to deliver 2028 victory,” he stated.

Track record

Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua comes into the NPP with a solid track record, having risen from the lower ranks of the NPP to become a deputy regional youth organiser in the Ashanti Region. He subsequently contested and won his bid to become the substantive Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the NPP.

Appointed as the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) CEO during the first term of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2017, JFK decided to run as the General Secretary of the NPP in 2022, a bid he won due to his massive popularity in the party.

Credited for superintending over one of the flawless and transparent parliamentary primaries in the NPP, Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua is seen as a consummate politician and a fair minded individual.

Traits

Many in the NPP see Lawyer Kodua as a good listener, a sober minded person and above all a truthful individual.

Calm and without any trait of eccentric behaviour, many party faithful believe such a character was needed to lead the NPP’s intended reforms.

Many in the NPP also see him as having a good plan to rebuild and lead efforts by the party to recapture political power in the next General elections.
