The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, says members of the party are now living in fear because they do not know who may be picked up next.
He accused the Mahama administration of creating a climate of fear for NPP members through what he describes as harassment, prosecution and intimidation.
Speaking to the media after the party petitioned the Dean of the Diplomatic corps about happening in the country on May 19, he said “If you are an NPP person, when you wake up, you don’t know if you are the next person on the list,” he said.
Salam Mustapha claimed the situation has become so worrying that NPP members now have to prepare themselves for possible arrest whenever they step out.
“These days, when you are going out, you must prepare yourself well. You must have toothpaste, toothbrush, sponge, Milo, Cerelac on you because you don’t know if you will be picked up in the next moment,” he said.
He described this as the current reality of being an NPP member in Ghana.
“That is the sad reality to be an NPP person in Ghana today,” he stated.
He questioned whether such a political climate reflects the democratic values Ghana claims to uphold.
“Is this the democracy that we want to build?” he asked.
