Senegal stripped of 2025 AFCON Title: “What level of Football is this?” – Didier Drogba slams CAF

“In Europe, you can never see things like this.” That was the sharp reaction of former Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba to the recent controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the awarding of a major trophy.

Drogba, one of Africa’s most celebrated footballers, expressed disbelief over CAF’s handling of the situation.

“It is completely unacceptable that Senegal were handed the trophy and later it was given to Morocco. What level of football is this? Where are we taking African football to?” he said.

The football legend’s comments mirror the frustration of many fans across the continent, who feel such incidents tarnish the credibility and global image of African football.

Critics argue that inconsistent decisions like this not only upset players and supporters but also undermine efforts to professionalise the sport in Africa.

CAF has yet to issue a detailed explanation for the reversal, leaving fans and football figures alike calling for greater transparency and accountability in the governance of African football.
