AGGRIEVED NPP MEMBERS URGE NEC TO ANNUL ABLEKUMA WEST REGISTER OVER ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES

Some aggrieved members and Polling Station Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ablekuma West Constituency have petitioned the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Steering Committee to intervene in what they describe as serious irregularities surrounding the constituency’s electoral register.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 10, the group said it had submitted two petitions to the party’s General Secretary, seeking action over alleged fraud and procedural breaches in the compilation of the register and the conduct of Electoral Area elections.

According to them, the first petition challenges the process used to compile the constituency’s electoral register and the subsequent Electoral Area elections conducted with the disputed register.

They said the second petition, filed through a solicitor, seeks redress for members they claim were unlawfully removed from the register and displaced from positions they had been duly elected to.

aggrieved members alleged that some individuals who were elected, acclaimed and sworn into office were later removed from the register without their knowledge and replaced with persons who neither contested the elections nor, in some cases, submitted nomination forms.

They further claimed that although the Electoral Area elections were initially postponed due to concerns over the register, the polls were eventually held despite objections from the Constituency Chairman, who had called for the process to be suspended until the issues were resolved.

The group said it had decided to pursue the matter through the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms rather than the courts, expressing confidence that the NEC would act to protect the integrity of the party’s democratic processes.

They argued that compiling a new, transparent and verifiable register would improve confidence in the party’s delegates system, especially amid ongoing concerns over its constitutional validity before the Supreme Court.

The petitioners are therefore demanding that the NEC and Steering Committee annul the disputed register and the elections conducted with it, investigate the alleged irregularities, compile a new credible register for the constituency and restore members they claim were unfairly removed from office.

They warned that failure to address the concerns could affect the party’s unity and electoral prospects ahead of the 2028 general elections.
