President John Mahama has assured the nation that the Ghana Armed Forces will undertake a full and transparent investigation into the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of several military personnel.

Speaking at the Jubilee House on Thursday, August 7, President Mahama addressed the country for the first time since the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6.

The President expressed his deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

While calling for national unity during the period of mourning, he acknowledged the public’s demand for answers.

“As we mourn, questions about the cause of this tragedy are natural and important,” he said.

President Mahama emphasised the government’s commitment to uncovering the truth behind the crash, assuring Ghanaians that no detail would be concealed.

“I want to assure the families and the nation that the Ghana Armed Forces has initiated a full and transparent investigation into the circumstances of this crash,” he stated.

The President’s remarks come as the country begins three days of national mourning in honour of the fallen soldiers.

Ghanaians are expected to lay flowers and light candles from Thursday through Saturday, culminating in a national memorial event at the State House on the evening of 9 August.
