The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Works and Housing Committee and Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has declared that the era of political lip service must come to an end, stressing that governments must move beyond promises and take concrete action to address the country’s housing challenges.
Clarifying his position on what he described as “political lip service,” the MP said public officials often fail to fulfil promises made to citizens during campaign periods and official tours.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Home Owners Show with Hanna Atiase on Saturday, May 16, 2026, Mr Korsah referenced an earlier rental assistance initiative which, according to him, failed to provide adequate housing relief, particularly for students.
“It’s not enough to admit a challenge and promise the public feasible solutions only to abandon them later,” he stated.
According to the lawmaker, government must take greater responsibility for easing the accommodation burden on citizens in order to reduce the pressure caused by rising rent costs.
He argued that relieving citizens of rent-related stress would enable them to build wealth and improve their living conditions.
“Government has to take the burden of rent off the shoulders of citizens. This can help people accumulate wealth and also support others,” he said.
