GODFRED DAME DENIES RECEIVING SEDINA TAMAKLOE’S NOTICE OF APPEAL

Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has denied claims that his office received a notice of appeal from former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe, who is challenging her conviction and sentencing.

Tamakloe was convicted in April 2024 for causing financial loss to the state during her tenure at the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC). She was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of misappropriating public funds. Her lawyers have since claimed that they filed an appeal against the conviction and sentence, arguing that she was denied a fair hearing.

Responding to the claims, Dame told Citi Newsroom that no such notice has been served on the Attorney-General’s Department. “As far as the records of the Attorney-General’s Department are concerned, no notice of appeal has been served on us. We have not received any such document,” he stated.

He stressed that until a proper notice of appeal is filed and duly served, the conviction and sentence remain valid and enforceable. “Until a proper notice of appeal is filed and served, the judgment stands,” Dame added.

Legal analysts note that appeals must be filed within a statutory timeframe and properly served on the Attorney-General’s office to be valid. The denial raises questions about whether Tamakloe’s lawyers followed the required procedures or whether lapses occurred in the filing process.

The case has drawn significant public attention as one of Ghana’s high-profile corruption prosecutions. It forms part of the government’s broader anti-corruption drive, which has targeted former officials accused of mismanaging state resources. Dame’s insistence that no appeal has been received underscores the government’s position that the conviction stands unless due legal process is followed.
