The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for its upcoming internal elections while issuing a severe warning to all aspirants against the deployment of cash-based inducements and the monetization of the vetting and voting processes.
The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) made the announcement outlining the strict guidelines, rules of engagement, and timelines for prospective candidates. While opening the floor for qualified members to pick up nomination forms, the national leadership emphasized that any attempt to influence delegates through direct financial payouts or untraceable “cash-based” logistics will be met with immediate disqualification and disciplinary action.
The warning follows growing public and internal concerns regarding the “monetization of politics” in Ghana, where internal party primaries have increasingly faced scrutiny over heavy spending and vote-buying allegations. As the party prepares its structures to challenge the ruling government, the NPP leadership stressed that it is determined to safeguard its democratic integrity and ensure a level playing field for all contestants, regardless of their financial backing.
Aspirants have been urged to strictly adhere to the code of conduct governing the elections, focusing their campaigns on competence, policy, and party unity. The party further noted that monitoring mechanisms have been set up across various voting zones to track compliance, warning that candidates will be held directly accountable for any unethical financial practices executed by their campaign teams.
