The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred former presidential aspirant and Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to its National Disciplinary Committee following petitions over recent public comments deemed harmful to party unity.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council on Thursday, June 25, 2026. The committee has been given two weeks to investigate the petitions and submit recommendations.
Confirming the move on Joy FM’s Top Story, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) said:
“The decision was that all of these petitions must be referred to the National Disciplinary Committee. Let’s manage for the next two weeks, and when we receive the report and a decision is made, it will be communicated appropriately.”
The petitions stem from a series of remarks by Mr. Agyapong, including criticism of the Akufo-Addo administration’s failure to operationalise the Afari Military Hospital in the Ashanti Region despite heavy investment. He also warned that he could “spill the beans” on alleged wrongdoing within the party if attempts were made to silence him.
His comments have divided opinion within the NPP. While some argue they undermine efforts to rebuild unity after the 2024 electoral defeat, others insist they amount to constructive criticism. Party insiders say the leadership is concerned that such public exchanges could derail ongoing restructuring and grassroots mobilisation.
The disciplinary committee will determine whether Mr. Agyapong’s remarks breached party regulations and codes of conduct. The findings, expected within a fortnight, could significantly shape both his political future and the broader internal dynamics of the NPP.
Mr. Agyapong remains one of the party’s most influential figures, having placed second behind Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2023 presidential primaries. Known for his outspoken style, he continues to enjoy strong grassroots support.
