OTI REGION – A police search is underway in the Oti Region after two suspects overpowered a female officer on duty at the Kadjebi Police Station, attacked her, and broke out of their cell.

Police say the men took advantage of the fact that Lance Corporal Gyapong was alone on duty at the time. They allegedly forced open the cell door and assaulted her before fleeing.

One of the escapees has since been re-arrested. The other remains on the run, and authorities have announced a reward of two thousand cedis for information leading to his capture.

The Kadjebi District Police Commander confirmed the incident and assured that strenuous efforts are being made to track down the fugitive.

Lance Corporal Gyapong, who sustained injuries in the attack, was taken to the St. Mary Theresa Catholic Hospital in Dodi-Papase, where she is receiving treatment.
