Parliament will adjourn sine die on Friday, July 31, 2026, bringing the second meeting of the second session of the Ninth Parliament to a formal close ahead of the major legislative recess.
Presenting the Business Statement for the week ending July 31, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga informed lawmakers that the House must complete legislative action on several critical bills and financial reviews before rising.
Busy Agenda Ahead of Adjournment
The planned recess follows the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, alongside intense committee work on pending policy decisions.
Over the course of the current sitting, the House processed several major legislative proposals, including:
- The Public Tribunals Bill: Restructuring lower-level dispute resolution mechanisms despite intense opposition debates and Minority walkouts.
- The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill: Finalizing statutory review frameworks before legislative sign-off.
- The Community Service Bill: Establishing community service as a non-custodial alternative for minor offences to ease prison congestion.
- The National Defence University Ghana Bill: Providing legal backing for the setup of a specialized tertiary defense training institution.
Focus on Committee Referrals and Oversight
Leadership urged parliamentary committee chairpersons to clear all pending referrals and submit final reports to the plenary before the July 31 deadline.
Lawmakers are expected to spend the recess engaged in constituency duties and oversight activities ahead of the third meeting of the parliamentary session later in the year.
