Rose Yeboah makes history as first Ghanaian to reach World Championships High Jump final

Ghana’s athletics sensation Rose Yeboah has written her name in the annals of history books by securing a spot in the women’s high jump final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships. The 22-year-old cleared 1.92 meters in Thursday’s qualification round, finishing 9th overall to book her place among the world’s elite.

Yeboah, a former UCC standout and African Games gold medalist, showed poise and composure throughout her series of jumps. After clearing her early heights with ease, she sailed over 1.92m on her second attempt, a mark strong enough to carry her into Sunday’s final.

This achievement is another milestone in her fast-rising career, adding to her continental triumphs at the 2023 African Games and the 2024 African Championships. More importantly, it puts her on the brink of becoming the first Ghanaian woman ever to win a field event medal at the World Championships.

Her qualification also ends a two-decade drought for Ghana, making her the first athlete from the nation since 2005 to advance to a World Championships final. She stands alone this year too, after teammates Benjamin Azamati, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Alex Amankwah, and Ibrahim Fuseini fell short in their events.

With her growing confidence and impressive form, Rose Yeboah will carry Ghana’s hopes when the high jump final takes flight on September 21. For a country longing for global athletics success, she is now just one leap away from history.
