Step-aside order won’t fix dumsor — Energy Economist on GRIDCo CEO directive

An Energy Economist has cautioned against calls for the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to step aside, stating that such a move will not resolve the country’s power challenges.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, he noted that there is often a tendency to look for scapegoats whenever issues arise, rather than addressing the root causes.

According to him, if the Ministry of Energy has concrete evidence that the CEO’s negligence caused the recent incident, then appropriate action can be taken, but only after due process.

“Asking the GRIDCo boss to step aside won’t solve the problem. We should wait for investigations and focus on long-term solutions,” he added.

He urged authorities to allow ongoing investigations to be completed before drawing conclusions or taking decisions.

The economist emphasized that removing the current CEO and appointing a new one would not immediately fix the challenges in the energy sector.

He stressed the need for a more holistic and long-term approach to addressing the issues, rather than rushing to assign blame.
