We are no longer healing, we are preparing to govern – Bawumia

New Patriotic Party Flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the party’s Minority Caucus in Parliament to move beyond post-election reflection and reposition itself as a credible government-in-waiting.

Speaking at a pre-Parliament briefing with Minority MPs ahead of the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament, Dr. Bawumia said the party must now focus on rebuilding public confidence and presenting itself as ready to govern.

“We have finished the period of introspection. We must now position ourselves credibly as a party preparing to govern from 7th January 2029,” he stated.

He stressed that the Minority should no longer see itself as a wounded opposition, but as a disciplined parliamentary force preparing for leadership. According to him, all parliamentary actions, public statements, and constituency engagements must reflect that objective.

A Party Rebuilding Its Mandate
Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that the NPP’s return to power in 2029 would require discipline and unity, warning against complacency and internal fragmentation.

He also referenced key policy achievements under previous NPP governments, including the National Health Insurance Scheme, Free Senior High School policy, School Feeding Programme, and Youth Employment Programme, urging MPs to project the party’s record with confidence.

“We must always project this posture, that we are a party preparing to govern,” he told the MPs.

Direct Support Pledged
He further pledged personal support to the Minority Caucus and said the party was strengthening its internal coordination structures through sector committees to ensure unified messaging.

“I will be directly involved in supporting you to achieve this,” he said.

The engagement is one of Dr. Bawumia’s most significant meetings with the parliamentary wing since emerging as NPP Flagbearer and is expected to shape the Minority’s approach in the coming legislative sessions.
