Black Stars forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to compete with the world’s best, insisting the team is embracing the pressure ahead of its 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash against Colombia.
Ghana secured a place in the knockout stage after finishing third in Group L and will face the South American side in Kansas City on Saturday, July 4, with kick-off scheduled for 01:30 GMT.
Speaking before the crucial encounter, the 26-year-old said the expectations surrounding the Black Stars are a sign of the team’s remarkable progress in recent years.
“There is definitely pressure, but I feel like the pressure is because we’ve got such a good team. Over the years, our team’s got so much better, and now we feel like we’re on the world stage. We want to compete with all the top nations,” Semenyo said.
The Manchester City forward, who has scored twice during the group stage, believes Ghana possesses the quality to challenge any opponent and dismissed the notion that the Black Stars should be considered underdogs against Colombia.
“We’ve got the same talent. So why are we not up there? I feel like we’re at a stage now where we’re getting there, slowly building, and hopefully in the next years to come, we can compete,” he added.
